Portable DVD LG Electronics External Slim DVDRW 8X with Software
Pros:
--So far, very pleased and have overcome initial apprehension.
--Price: paid $14.99 ($29.99 less $10 sale discount, less $5 MIR)
--Slim
design, matte black, no fingerprint textured finish, lightweight
plastic housing. If you’re rough with hardware, might not be well
suited for your backpack.
--Windows 7, Ultimate, 64-bit recognized
hardware and installed required drivers. Used the GP50NB40 to install
other software on a laptop without any issues. Windows device manager
reports hardware as HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GP50NB40 USB Device.
--Quiet operation, feel slight vibration only if picked up. Mine does not move on a flat surface as others have stated.
--Includes
CD with Cyberlink suite and necessary software to update firmware from
vendor website. Cyberlink: Power2Go v7; PowerBackup v2.5; LabelPrint
v2.5; YouCam v3.1; User Manual and a downloader file to get copies of
PowerDVD v12, PowerDirector v10 and PhotoDirector v3.
--Easy firmware
update from vendor website, you’ll need an internet connection. My
unit manufactured April 23, 2013; original firmware v1.00, flashed to
v1.06. Latest released to improve M-Disc compatibility = everything is
recent and current.
--Test copied two burned CDs: desktop, laptop,
home entertainment center and portable CD player--all read and played
copies without errors. Have not yet test burned DVDs, but don’t
anticipated problems.
--VLC Media Player allows you to use a slider
to fast forward on DVDs without stuttering and/or crashing. Unit
immediately responds to fast switching between tracks on media.
Obviously, read heads are responsive.Read more
